In Advance:
Preheat oven to 350°
Lightly grease two baking sheets
Ingredients:
- 2 cups King Artur flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp ground cloves
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/3 cup butter
- 1/3 cup crisco
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 egg
- 2 TB dark Karo syrup
- 1 TB fresh ginger, grated
Topping:
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup sugar
Recipe:
- In medium bowl wisk together flour, baking soda, cloves and salt
- Process butter, shortening, sugar, and egg until fluffy
- Add corn syrup , combining well
- Pulse in dry ingredients and ginger. Transfer to a bowl
- Refrigerate until easy to handle – about two hours.
- In small bowl combine sugar and cinnamon
- Form dough into 1 1/2 inch balls ( a small ice cream scoop makes this easy)
- Roll in cinnamon-sugar and place 2 inches apart on baking sheets
Notes:
Bake 15 to 18 minutes until lightly browm. Remove to rack to cool. Store covered.
